Mr. Randal Wade Coffey, Abingdon, Va. passed away from this life at Johnston Memorial Hospital on Friday July 7, 2017. Ran, a native of Buchanan County, was born on October 7, 1947 in Grundy, Virginia to Wade Suddreth Coffey and Geraline (Gerri) Baldwin Coffey.
Ran attended the Leemaster Elementary School, grades 1-7, and graduated from Grundy High School in the class of 1966. Later, he graduated from the Business program at the Special Needs School in Fishersville, Virginia. He was employed at the Vansant location of Singleton’s Department Store for several years as well as the Food City in Vansant, Va. He relocated to Abingdon in 1995 and has resided there since. He was formerly a member of Big Prater Baptist Church at Leemaster, Virginia and was currently a member of Washington Chapel United Methodist Church in Abingdon, Va.
Ran was preceded in death by his parents, mother Gerri Coffey in 1994, and father Wade Coffey in 2003. He is survived by: one sister, Deborah Coffey Icenhour and her husband Ed, Ran’s “special brother” of Abingdon; one brother, James William Coffey and his wife Ruby of Glasgow, Kentucky; Ran is also survived by nieces Brook Belcher Baker (Brian), Abingdon, Va.; Kathleen Coffey, Louisville, Ky.; Molly Coffey, Louisville, Ky.; nephew Nick Belcher, Abingdon, Va.; and great niece and nephew, Andrew and Lauren Baker of Abingdon, Va.
The family will receive visitors between the hours of 5:00 PM until 6:45 PM on Sunday, July 9, at Frost Funeral Home, Main Street, Abingdon, Virginia. The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation with Pastor Larry Lusk officiating.
A graveside committal service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 11 at GreenHills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Nick Belcher, Bobby Icenhour, Don Hall, Nelson Wampler, Greg Jordan, Bobby Thomas, Glenn Triplett, Neil Horn and Gary Thomas.
Sincere appreciation is extended to the caregivers Gail Orfield, the home health nurses with Intrepid Home Health Care, the wonderful caring medical staff of J.M.H 2nd floor, and Dr. Mark Handy.
