Obituary for
Nancy Bevins Yates
Nancy Bevins Yates, age 79, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 26, 2016, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
She was born February 16, 1937, in Big Rock, Va., to the late Frank William Bevins and Gladys Moore Bevins. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Ralph Yates and three brothers, Franklin Bevins, Johnny Bevins and Joey Bevins.
Mrs. Yates was a retired teacher having taught in Buchanan County, Va., for 35 years. Following graduation from Radford College she taught as a 1st grade teacher at Big Rock before receiving her teaching degree from Pikeville College. Upon her graduation from Pikeville College she returned to Harman, Va., where she taught her remaining years as a kindergarten teacher at Harman Elementary School. Throughout her teaching career she touched the lives of many students and always cherished those memories when she would meet them later in life.
Nancy was a dedicated Christian and loved to read and study the Bible. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by one son, Timothy Yates and wife Susie of Greer, SC; two grandchildren, Tiffany Sue Yates and Timothy Matthew Yates; one sister, Gipsy Bevins of Elkhorn City, KY; one special nephew who was like a brother, Michael Bevins; one special niece, Sharon Whitmore and several other nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2016, at Frost Funeral Home with funeral services to follow at 7 p.m. Family and friends will gather for a short service at the funeral home Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. and then travel to Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock, Va., where committal services will follow at 2 p.m. in the mausoleum chapel, Minister Michael S. McCoy will be officiating.
