Obituary for
Jerry Lincoln Pennington
Abingdon, Va.
Jerry Lincoln Pennington, 76, passed into Heaven on Monday, August 8, 2016, at his home after a hard fought 5 year battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
He was born December 20, 1939, in Konnarock, Va., to the late Verla Jane Hodge Pennington and Wardie E. Pennington. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by one sister, Nancy Perrin; one brother, Conley Pennington; one brother-in-law, Bobby Blevins; one sister-in-law, Betty Rosencrans and one son-in-law, Kenneth Rouse.
Jerry was retired from Columbus McKinnon Corporation in Damascus after 23 years of service.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Stella Chitwood Pennington; two daughters, Vickie Crenshaw and husband Shayne and Connie Rouse Reynolds and husband Harry; one son, Jerry Dee Pennington; one sister, Cleta Mae Blevins of Fayetteville, WV; one brother, Aulbin Pennington and wife Katherine “Jewel” of Konnarock, Va.; sister-in-law, Carol Tucker and husband Thomas of Conroe, Texas; brother-in-law, Cecil Chitwood and wife Kathy of Paris, Tenn. He is also survived by grandsons, Derek Rouse, Dustin Rouse and wife Natasha and Matthew Rouse; the joy of life his great granddaughter, Aubrey Rouse; and several aunts, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. William Handy and the staff at Home Nursing Hospice as well as to the staff at Lincare of Abingdon, a special thank you to hospice nurses, Patty, Rose, and Karen for all their kindness and attention during his illness.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2016, at Azen Baptist Church, Konnarock, Va. Graveside services will immediately follow in the church cemetery with Pastor Junior Gobble, his longtime friend officiating.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and Jack Brooks, Shayne Crenshaw and Harry Reynolds. Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Haga, Steve Pennington and Dale Myers.
The family is gathering at the home, 19285 Saturn Dr. Abingdon, VA, where friends may visit at any time.
