Jerry Lee Queary, Sr.
Jerry Lee Queary, Sr., 78, passed away unexpectedly Monday, February 23, 2015, at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Jerry was born in Decatur, IL, and had lived in Highwood, IL, prior to moving to Abingdon. He was a well-known antique and jewelry dealer having been in the business for over 45 years. Along with his wife they owned and operated Jerry Lee Antiques in Abingdon. He had a great love for time pieces especially pocket watches. Jerry and his wife enjoyed traveling to antique shows across the country, they spent many years as local vendors at the Virginia Highlands Festival and the Hillsville Gun and Knife Show.
He was a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and the National Rifle Association, and was also a member of the National Watch and Clock Association. Jerry always loved supporting new businesses when they opened up and was often the first to give them “good luck money”.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Lee Queary, Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Kay Queary; one son, Jeremy Lee Queary; one grandson, Nikolas Reid Hudler and his mother and grandmother, Nikie and Becky Hudler; one sister, Iris Clement and husband Bud and their family; mother-in-law, Frances Shelton; three sisters-in-law, Joann Chen and husband Manny, Marilyn Mullins and husband Mitch, and Michelle Ziegler and husband BI; three brothers-in-law, Daryl Shelton, Franklin Shelton and wife Sharon, and Alan Shelton and wife Jana; five nieces, Becky, Jenni, Misty, Emily and Talia; two nephews, Ethan and Jakob; one great niece, Mattie; special friends, Mickie and Star Mullins, Chip McCall and Larry Greer; longtime friends, Phyllis Tompkins, and Dave and Fayda Jennings; numerous other family members and many dear friends.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Davis and staff at Johnston Memorial Cancer Center, Dr. Baker, and the doctors and staff at Johnston Memorial Hospital ER for the care that was given to Jerry.
No services are planned at this time. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
