Mr. Gene T. Vencill, age 89, of Bristol, VA, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at his residence.

Born on December 29, 1923, in Washington County, VA, he was a son of the late Glen and Margaret Brooks Vencill. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by six sisters and one brother.

He had lived in Northern Virginia for many years before returning to Bristol in 1989. After returning to this area he had loved spending his time farming. He was an avid baseball fan having played semi pro baseball in Bristol during the late 1940’s and 1950’s. His favorite team was the Washington Nationals who he especially enjoyed watching.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Vencill; six children, Jerry Vencill of Manassas, VA, Sonja Meadows of Bristol, VA, Dolores Benzel of Waleska, GA, Bob Vencill and wife Pat of New Market, MD, Barbara McGie of Fayetteville, TN and Steve Vencill of Bristol, VA; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters, June Bigley and Mattlee Cox; two brothers, Ralph Vencill and Jack Vencill; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, September 13, 2013, in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Craig Wylie officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
