David Paul Wright, age 77, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2017, at Grace Healthcare Center.

He was born April 3, 1940, in Clinchco, Va., to the late Harold and Virginia J. Wright. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Wright.

David was a former resident of Dickenson County, Va., for over 40 years before moving to Abingdon in 2016. He worked many years in the trucking and coal mining businesses before retiring as a Deputy Sheriff from the Dickenson County Sheriff’s Office. He was a member of First Baptist Church in St. Paul, Va.

He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. David was an avid NASCAR fan and always enjoyed a great meal.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Faye M. Wright; two daughters, Beverly F. Wright (J. Daniel Callahan) of Abingdon and Paula K. Wright (Jay Lavigne) of Abingdon; six grandchildren, Megan Riddle (Nathan Lambert), Patrick Callahan (Claire), Sara Roark (Bart), Emma Harrison (Carl), Kym Lavigne-Hinkley (Matt) and Colin Lavigne (Helen); three great grandchildren, Allie Roark, Wiles Roark and Madeline Hinkley; three sisters, Rita, Katherine and Ginny; one brother, Kenneth; and two brothers-in-law, Emory and Darius Mullins.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staffs of Grace Healthcare Center and Caris Hospice for the care shown to David during his illness.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, December 4, 2017, in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel. The family will visit with friends at the funeral home during a reception immediately following the service.
