VIOLET CRYSTAL VERMILLION LONG
Violet Crystal Vermillion Long, age 79, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 19, 2017, at her home.
She was born October 19, 1938, in Kingsport, TN, a daughter of the late Arthur Maynard Vermillion and Laura Crystal Carrier Vermillion. She graduated from Hamilton High School of Mendota, VA in 1956, and married her husband Billy Jack “BJ” later that year. Throughout her life she was a homemaker, seamstress, and “Lady” farmer. She also worked at Nettie Lee, Unisys, Bristol Metals, and Johnston Memorial Hospital. Violet was a faithful member of Greendale Chapel for many years and sang in the choir. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde Vermillion and Ire Vermillion, and one sister, Betty Fields.
She is survived by her loving family: her husband of 61 years, Billy Jack “BJ” Long of Abingdon; three daughters, Deborah Long, Tammie Kroll and husband Jim, and Valerie Mitchell and husband Rick, all of
Abingdon; seven grandchildren, Josh, Tyler and Julie Kroll and Sierra, Dennis, Alysta, and Eli Mitchell; three sisters, Marie “Wavy” Fleenor and husband Don, Carolyn Pippin and husband David, both of Mendota, VA, and Mildred Salyers of Hiltons, VA; two brothers, Maynard Vermillion and wife Bernice of Mt. Carmel, TN, and Calvin Vermillion and wife Pat of Mendota, VA; sister-in-law, Ester Vermillion of Mendota, VA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Carl and Carolyn Lunsford of Abingdon; brother-in-law, Preston Willis of Amherst, VA; and several nieces and nephews, including a special great-nephew and wife, Tommy and Carla Wynegar.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at 7:00 P.M. at Greendale Chapel with Rev. Jerry A. Eggers officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church from 5:00 P.M. until time of the funeral service. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at 11:00 A.M. at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 10:50 A.M. Honorary pallbearers will be Grandsons, Nephews, Neighbors, and Men of Greendale Chapel. Memorial
