Obituary for Lois Jean Edwards

Lois Jean Huffman Edwards, of Bristol, Va., died on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, of Parkinson’s and Heart Disease.

On July 29,1942, a long-awaited daughter, Lois Jean, was delivered to Avia L. Huffman and his wife, Gladys Bailey Huffman of Wilder, Va., in rural Russell County. Both are deceased. Her paternal grandparents were Alex and Lucretia Huffman from Wilder, Va. Her maternal grandparents, Joe Bailey and Katie Puckett Bailey were from Carrie, Va., in Dickenson County.

Lois met and fell in love with her sweetheart, Ruddy Edwards in March, 1959. They married in a civil ceremony on June 8, 1959. On June 8th, 1972 they renewed their vows in a Christian ceremony at High Point Presbyterian Church in Bristol, Va., with their daughters as their attendants.

Lois worked 32 years as Food Service Manager serving the children of Washington County, Va., at John Battle High School, Valley Institute Elementary, and E.B. Stanley, and Wallace Middle Schools. She served as an officer on the State Food Service Board.

Survivors are Ruddy Edwards her husband of 58 years; daughter, Gina E. Edwards and her daughter Hannah of Sissonville, WV; Gina’s son, William Ruddy Shaffer, USAF serving in Italy and his wife Emily and daughter, Kaydence; daughter, Amelia J. Crusenberry and her husband Phillip and their daughter Emma all of Bristol, Va.; sister, Helen Snead and husband Frazier of Lebanon, Va., their daughter Jennifer and her husband David Shrader; brother, Jimmy V. Huffman of Tazewell, Va.; sisters-in-law, Ann Harrison of Honaker, Va., Laura Goss of Riverside, California; Billie Lasley, Lebanon, Va., and Judy Painter of Richmond, Va.

Lois is also survived by lots of loving Edwards’ nieces and nephews. Nephews and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Lois’ survivors also include her special angel friends.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, November 17, 2017, at High Point Presbyterian Church, Bristol, Va. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. with Doug Smith and Rev. Luke Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in High Point Cemetery.
