Obituary for
Stoney Willis Jackson
Stoney Willis Jackson, age 89, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2017, at Commonwealth Senior Living in Abingdon, Va.
He was born on June 20, 1928, in Saltville, Va., to the late Bryant L. Jackson and Pocahontas Broady Jackson. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Dixie Jackson Falls; and four brothers, Preston L. Jackson, W. Howard Jackson, James E. Jackson, Sr., and Claude F. Jackson.
Stoney was a veteran of the United States Army and was retired from Appalachian Power Company after 44 years of service. He was an avid train collector and loved traveling with his brothers to visit and enjoy the coalfields. His family and friends will always remember him for his sharp sense of observation and great sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife of 62 ½ years, Eula M. Jackson of Abingdon; two daughters, Stasia Jackson and husband, Tom Gilmer of Lebanon, Va., and Julia "Zulie" J. Johnston and husband, Richard of Abingdon; one brother, Paul R. Jackson and wife, Ann of Abingdon; several nieces and nephews; and special friend and neighbor, Pauline Anderson and her son, Jerry.
The family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Commonwealth Senior Living, Dr. Ernest Henry and staff, Dr. William J. Baker and staff, Dr. Warren Chang and a special thank you to Caris Hospice for the excellent care that was shown. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to BJ Delp for sharing his musical talents with the family on the day of service.
Stoney was quietly laid to rest by his family and friends in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Knollkreg Memorial Park at 4 p.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2017. The Rev. Steve McCready officiated the service.
