Obituary for
Myra Kathleen Combs (Denton)
Myra Kathleen Combs, age 80, of Abingdon, Va., went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 20, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Sullivan County, Tenn., on January 1, 1937. Her parents were Walter David Denton and Jennie Mae Denton. She was the second of three children and is survived by her siblings, Charles William Denton and Judy Gerelene Hilt.
She was a devoted employee of Harwood Manufacturing in Abingdon for 30 years and Columbus-McKinnon for 10 years before retiring. She was a longtime member of Denton Valley Baptist Church.
She met her would-be husband of 61 years, David Clarence Combs, Jr. in the Denton Valley Community. She was a loving mother of one, Penny Denton Sutherland and grandmother of two, Alexandria Denton Milnichuk and Richard Christopher David Milnichuk, Jr. She also left behind many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She loved traveling, gardening, fishing with her husband, taking care of her family and spending time with friends.
Kathleen will be remembered as a selfless, altruistic wife and mother who always had a smile, even when times were tough. She had a quite strength. She never complained and always sacrificed her needs for the good of the family.
Visitation will be from 2 to 3:45 p.m. Sunday, October 22, 2017, in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Tim Stevens and Rev. Jerry A. Eggers officiating. Committal services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery by 12:45 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts are requested to Denton Valley Baptist Church, 24051 Denton Valley Rd., Abingdon, Va., 24211.
