Obituary for Shirley O. (Peggy) Keesee

ABINGDON, VIRGINIA


Shirley O. (Peggy) Keesee, age 83, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 10, 2017, at Johnston Memorial Hospital.

She was born October 27, 1933, in the Rich Valley Section of Smyth County, Virginia, a daughter of the late William Vincent Olinger and Josephine Neal Olinger. She was a graduate of Rich Valley High School and married the love of her life Thomas (Reggie) Keesee on July 27, 1950. She worked at Smyth County Community Hospital for several years. She was a customer service representative for Anthem (formerly Blue Cross and Blue Shield) and retired after 25 years of service. She and her husband Reggie moved to Abingdon in 1972 and attended Greendale Chapel. Peggy was a blessing to everyone she met with her sweet smile and wonderful disposition.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas (Reggie) Keesee on September 2, 2017; eight brothers, Clarence E. Olinger, Charles Sanders Olinger, Warren Vincent Olinger, Kenneth Olinger, Edward Olinger, William Olinger, John Henry Olinger, and Walter Olinger; two sisters, Susie Agnes Johnson and Edith Vivian Olinger.

Survivors include a very special sister and caregiver whom she considered to be a daughter, Linda (Jane) Rector of Marion, VA; sister, Louise D. Taylor of Chilhowie, VA; brother, Larry (Red) Worley of Rich Valley VA; brother-in-law, Ed Keesee of Chilhowie, VA; sisters-in-law, Maxine Olinger and Mary Lou Olinger; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at 2:00 P. M. at Greendale Chapel with Rev. Jerry A. Eggers and Rev. Paul Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgedale Cemetery in Rich Valley, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Rodney Worley, Randy Worley, David Olinger, Emmett Worley, Tony Rector, Ken Olinger, Allen Olinger, and Greg Rector. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie McConnell, L. J. Doss, Jim Buchanan, Robert Bailey, Bill Slemp, and Men of Greendale Chapel. The family will receive friends at the Church from 1:00 P.M. until time of the funeral service.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Donna Puckett, Dr. Keel, Dr. Shawnberger, Dr. Jennifer Jonkers, and Dr. Emily Shields, for their love and concern shown to Peggy.
