Obituary for Martin Campbell

Abingdon, Va.

Martin Miller Campbell, age 84, of Abingdon, Va., passed away on Thursday, July 06, 2017, at Valley Healthcare Center, Chilhowie, Va.

He was born October 16, 1932, in Butler, Tenn., to the late James G. Campbell and Ethel Pierce Campbell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Sam Campbell; great-great grandson, Ayden Houser; nephew, Dan Campbell; and his wife, Jean Campbell.

Martin was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va., he was a member of Macedonia Church of Christ and attended Berry Creek Baptist Church. He was a lifelong farmer and worked many years at the Abingdon Stockyard. Martin always enjoyed breakfast with his friends at Dairy Queen where he served as president of the “liars club”, he will also be fondly remembered for the many meals he shared with friends at the Cherokee Restaurant.

He is survived by two children, Cathy Cox and Rick Roe. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.

Visitation will be from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017, in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Rick Cuddy officiating. Committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Bennie Harris officiating. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery by 1:45 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Campbell, Jimmy Church, Dave Lloyd, Martie Roe, Jeff Campbell, Trevor Cox, Randall Campbell and Brandon Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Anderson and Bill Wheeler.
