Obituary for
Edward Leo Thomas
Edward Leo Thomas, age 81, of Abingdon, Va., went home to be with family at heaven’s gate on Friday, June 30, 2017, after a brief illness following a massive stroke.
He was born February 12, 1936, in Washington County, Va., and lived his entire life in the area. He was a veteran having proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was the owner and operator of Edward L. Thomas Electric and Plumbing and a lifelong farmer.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Gussy Mae and William “Bill” Thomas; mother, Juanita Helen Thomas Hall; and two brothers, Jack Douglas Thomas and William “C.W.” Thomas.
Survivors include his wife, Katheryn Thomas of Abingdon, Va.; three children, Mark Thomas, Tammie Thomas and Connie Prater and husband Paul all of Abingdon, Va.; three grandchildren, Hunter Thomas, Tim Prater and Ashley Curtis; three great grandchildren; four sisters, Brenda, Barbara, Bonnie and Judy Belle; three brothers, Johnny, Bobby and Lonnie; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday, July 3, 2017, in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Irvin Wyatt officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Mark Thomas, Hunter Thomas, Paul Prater, Tim Prater, Dennis Smith and Lonnie Hall.
