Obituary for
Nancy Cordelia Topa
Glade Spring, Virginia
Having visited over 300 quilt shops all over the United States and having pet as many kitties as she could, Nancy Cordelia Topa (Bares) passed away peacefully on June 27, 2017 in Glade Spring, Virginia.
Nancy was born October 17, 1938 in St, Cloud, MN and was preceded in death by her parents Reinhard and Greta Bares. She is survived by her husband Phillip Topa, brother Ronald Bares, her daughters Joy Nancy Tinsen and Jeanne Ann Strotman, her step-children Heidi Thibault, Kim and Bob Bunszel and Travis Topa as well as 5 grandchildren Dakoda Strotman, Lydia and Emily Bunzel, Tyler and Celeste Thibault.
Nancy raised her children in Richardson and Garland Texas where she worked in sales, office administration and as a private book-keeper before bravely moving across the country to Keene, NH while working for Markem Corp where she met and married Phillip.
Nancy was an avid quilter who loved making and sharing all kinds of quilted crafts. She loved all the wonderful time spent with her quilting group, Wolf Hills Quilters, especially making quilts to donate to the American Cancer Support group of Abingdon for patients. Nancy enjoyed volunteering as an usher at the Barter Theater and the Arts Depot in Abingdon, VA as well as the Food Pantry of Glade Spring as often as she could.
Love of travel and the opportunity to visit new places took Nancy and Phil on many adventures from one coast to the other in search of quilt and carving shops and exhibits. She and Phil chose to retire in Glade Spring, Va. She would want you to know how blessed she felt being a part of this community and how grateful she was to have you all in her life.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Byars-Cobb Memorial United Methodist Church in Glade Spring, Virginia with the Rev. Paul Griffith, the Rev. Tim Bird, and Joe Wilson officiating. A reception will take place at Byars-Cobb Memorial United Methodist Church immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given in her name to the American Cancer Society. The family of Nancy Topa wishes to thank all of those involved in giving her a wonderful life, and in supporting her and her loved ones during her passing. She is missed.
FROST FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE OF ABINGDON IS HONORED TO SERVE THE Topa FAMILY.
