James Richard Alexander, 80, of Meadowview, Va., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Johnston Memorial Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Alexander and Mary Kimberlin Alexander; one brother, Caney Alexander; one sister, Juanita Carwile and his wife, Judy Alexander.

Survivors include three sons, Gene Edwards and wife Lisa of Glade Spring, Jeffery Edwards and fiancé Annette of Meadowview and Joey Edwards of Texas; five brothers, Carl Alexander and wife Levonda of Abingdon, Clyde Alexander and wife Debbie of Glade Spring, Loyde Alexander and wife Carolyn of Damascus, Ralph Alexander and wife Brenda of Rutherfordton, NC, and Dan Alexander of Glade Spring; two sisters, Thelma Cannon of Abingdon and Shirley Hurd and husband Marvin of Meadowview; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017, in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Dan Birchfield officiating. A committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus, Va. Family and friends are asked to gather at the funeral home by 10:15 a.m. to travel in procession to the cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Loyde Alexander, Ralph Alexander, Ricky Hurd, Chase Hurd, Cody Hurd and David Widener. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Neese, Larry Neese and Coy Davenport.

The family will be gathering at the home of Shirley and Marvin Hurd where friends may visit at any time.
