Linda Lawerence Thomas, age 77, of Abingdon, Virginia passed away April 27, 2017 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was born March 19, 1940 in Washington Co., Va. to the late Charlie and Dora Swartz Lawerence. She lived in Northern Virginia most of her life and was employed by the Alexandria Police Department from April 1944 to April 1961. Upon retirement she and her husband Jim moved to Abingdon.


In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by one sister: Valerie Jean Hutton and one brother: Robert T. (Bob) Hutton.


She is survived by her husband: Jim "Bird" Thomas; one sister: Jeanie Johnson; one special niece Connie Arnold and husband Scottie; two sisters-in-law: Christine Cannon and Doris Smith; one brother-in-law: Earl Thomas and wife Mary Francis; many other caring relatives and friends also survive.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 2 pm in the Mount Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring, Va. with Rev. Bob Neace officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
