Obituary for Zelma Melvinia Arnold

Zelma Melvinia Arnold, age 78, of Abingdon, Va., went to be with the Lord, March 7, 2017, at Abingdon Health & Rehab.

She was born June 8, 1938, in Abingdon, Va., to the late Elmer Campbell Widener and Martha Blevins Widener. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her son, Kelsey Wayne Arnold.

She was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va., and was a member of Denton Valley Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Nannie Bell Arnold and husband Dewayne of Abingdon, and Frances Wolfe and husband Earl of Abingdon; three brothers, Howard Widener of Abingdon, Joe Widener of Damascus and Harry Widener and wife Nancy of Abingdon; four granddaughters, Christy Arnold, Summer Arnold, Chelsey Dotson and MeKesha Bowling; six great grandchildren; a very special niece, Esther Arnold Poff; and her ex-husband, J.C. Arnold of Bluff City, Tenn.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Abingdon Health & Rehab and Caris Healthcare for the care given to Mrs. Arnold.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2017, in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Tim Stevens and Rev. Gordon Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Steve Arnold, Danny Rasnake, Derek Testerman, Jim Widener, Brad Dotson and Frankie Widener. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Widener and Josh Arnold.
