Mrs. Frances Bailey Thomas, age 84, of Abingdon, Va., passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Va. She was born in Abingdon, Va., to the late Mack and Vergie Bailey on May 11, 1932. She worked for several years at Harwood Companies Inc. Frances especially enjoyed the many years she worked at the Southwest Virginia 4-H Center in Abingdon. Her position making and serving meals to many civic groups, clubs and children filled her with a sense of purpose and joy. Frances was a member of Washington Chapel United Methodist Church. At Washington Chapel, Frances was known for creating homemade chocolate Easter eggs and especially for her cooking; fixing meals for fellowship, Bible School and other church activities. Perhaps her greatest joys were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Frances prided herself in attending sporting events, livestock shows, graduations, plays, programs and anything that involved her babies. She always made sure her family and friends were well fed with treats including family favorites, chicken-n-dumplins and peanut butter pie. Her spirit, laughter and love will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Tony Thomas; brother, Bruce Bailey; sisters, Shelly Bailey, Mary Ruth Humphreys, Jean Moretz and Marie Weaver and great-grandson, Graham Thomas. She is survived by her sons, Bobby Thomas and wife, Judy and Gary Thomas and wife, Angie, all of Abingdon, Va.; grandchildren, Chad Thomas and wife, Kelly, of Meadowview, Va., JJ Thomas and wife, Ashley, of Knoxville, Tenn., Courtney Thomas and Nick Belcher, of Abingdon, Va., and Terra Thomas of Abingdon, Va.; honorary granddaughter, Nickie Hollandsworth and husband, Jordan, of Abingdon, Va.; great-grandchildren, Carley Thomas, Colt Thomas and Kaisley Cox. Visitation will be from 2 to 3:45 p.m. Sunday, March 5, 2017, at Washington Chapel United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. Sunday at the church with Pastor Larry Lusk and the Rev. Mark McFadden officiating. Graveside services and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2017, in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Bobby Thomas, Gary Thomas, Chad Thomas, JJ Thomas, Nick Belcher and Colt Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be Ottie Thomas, David Thomas, Jordan Hollandsworth, Cody Cox, Phil McCall, Kevin Collins, Rocky Thomas, Wesley Thomas and Wayne Thomas.
