Obituary for William N. "Sam" Anderson

William N. “Sam” Anderson, 68, of the Smith Creek community, passed away February 19, 2017, at his home.

He was born September 18, 1948, in Washington County, Va., to the late George Washington Anderson and Ruby Harmon Anderson. Sam was a lifelong resident of the area and was an avid hunter and fisherman, he especially enjoyed turkey hunting. He was a member and former deacon of Heavenly Rest Church and attended Swartz Chapel Church.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Brenda Anderson; three children, Cheryl Elam of Bristol, Va., Darin Anderson and wife Elizabeth of Bluff City, Tenn., and Diane Anderson of Abingdon, Va.; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Mildred Botts; three sisters, Jane Bowers and husband Tuff, Lucille Hoss and Elizabeth Roark and husband Junior; three brothers, Larry Anderson, Roger Anderson and Clyde Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express special thanks to P.T. and Sherry Glover and Charlie Harmon and family for the kindness that was shown during this time.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at Heavenly Rest Cemetery, Abingdon, Va., with Pastor Larry P.T. Glover and Pastor Charlie Harmon officiating. Family and friends will gather at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m.
