Obituary for Vivian Kite

Dateline: Abingdon, Va.


Vivian Eileen Galliher Maiden Kite, age 88, went to sleep in Jesus on Tuesday, January 17,2017 at her residence. She was born January 17, 1929 to the late Robinson “Bob” Galliher and Blanche Sanders Galliher in the Green Springs community, later moving to Abingdon, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Don Maiden who passed away in 1968. She was then preceded in death by her husband, George Luther Kite. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Charles Galliher; sister, Margeret Elizabeth “Peggy” Wann; brother-in-law, Joe Wann; and grandson-in-law, Daniel G. Harper.


She is survived by her children, Bob “Bobby” Maiden of Abingdon, Va., Donna Maiden Farley and husband Dr. Patrick Farley of Abingdon, Va., Elizabeth Ann Ehlert Cornett and husband Aaron Cornett of Mt. City, Tn., Anne Kite Lee and husband Don Lee of Abingdon, Va.


She is also survived by her grandchildren Jeremy Maiden, Patrick Maiden, Nick Maiden and wife Dee, Tamara Chafin and husband Brandon Chafin, Heidi Nordby and husband Marc Nordby, Heather Montes and husband Josfer Montes, Logan Harper Roche and husband Chris Roche, Michael Pennington and wife Allison Pennington, Matthew Cornett and wife MacKenzie Cornett, Lauren Farley and Katherine Keller and husband Joe Keller.


She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Betty Galliher; nephews, Robbie Wann and Troy Wann; and several great grandchildren.


As a child Vivian attended Green Springs Presbyterian Church until her father Bob bought the Dixie Service Station and moved there in 1941. She was invited by a friend to Abingdon Baptist Church where she joined and was baptized in 1944. Vivian has been a proud member of Abingdon Baptist Church for 76 years. She was also a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. Vivian also was a member of the Abingdon Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, serving as Worthy Matron several times. In the 70’s she served as President of the 9th District Women Democratic Party and attended the National Convention as a delegate. She also received a Who’s Who in American women in 1981 VHCC.


Vivian graduated from William King High School in 1947 and also the Mary Dalton Frye Secretary School. She worked through the years at the Commissioner of Revenue Office, tobacco markets for insurance agencies and in Real Estate.


A goal of hers was to visit every state in the union which she and George accomplished, except Hawaii. After George’s death she got to go to Hawaii which completed her 50 state goal. She enjoyed traveling and camping.


A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Frost Funeral Home Chapel. Abingdon Chapter No. 182 Order of The Eastern Star will conduct a service at 1:45 p.m. Visitation will be from Noon Saturday, January 21, 2017 until the time of the service. The Rev. Jerry A. Eggers will officiate. Burial will follow at the Holston Conference Cemetery at Emory, Virginia.
