Dancey “Sonny” McClure Flanagan, 86, went to be with the Lord, Monday, June 27, 2016, at Grace Healthcare in Abingdon, Va.

He was born September 2, 1929, in Pulaski, Va., to the late Claude Austin Flanagan and Ina Miller Flanagan. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Virginia Flanagan.

Mr. Flanagan was a veteran of the United States Navy. He spent his entire life working in Law Enforcement, starting as a patrolman at the county level and working his way to serving at the Pentagon before retiring from the security department of the United States Marshall Service. He was a member of Abingdon Baptist Church.

He is survived by four very special friends, Shirley Clark, Debbie Woods, Butch Bowers and Carol McCary; nephew, William R. Johnston, Jr. and wife Donna Carol of Pearisburg, Va.; niece, Teresa Miller and husband Mac of Roanoke, Va.; sister-in-law, June Johnston of Roanoke, Va.

A sincere thank you is expressed to the staffs of English Meadows Assisted Living and Grace Healthcare in Abingdon, Va., for the care shown to Sonny.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Knollkreg Memorial Park with William R. Johnston, Jr. officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the United States Navy. There will be no visitation prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Butch Bowers, Rick Kelly, John Crigger, Sr., Gary Wayne Pippin, Mac Miller and Buddy Parris.
